RCE Crete, the Regional Center of Expertise in Education for Sustainable Development operates as a Non-Governmental and Non-Profit Organisation acknowledged by the United Nations University. RCE Crete was established in 2009 and it is an active member of the RCE Europe and the Global Network of RCEs. The mission of RCE Crete is to tackle the problems identified as key sustainable development challenges in the region and contribute to the promotion of Education for Sustainable Development both locally, regionally, and globally. Since its establishment, RCE Crete has been very active in promoting sustainable development issues in the region of Crete, focusing on climate change issues, but also on issues of social and cultural aspects of sustainability. It has provided training through non-formal interventions in various groups and has been involved in many European-funded projects.
